Oregon, Illinois is a picturesque community situated on the banks of the Rock River in Ogle County. Originally certified as Oregon City on Dec 4, 1838 by the Ogle County Clerk. the population in 2005 was listed at 4,163. Traveling the area in and around Oregon you will find many interesting historical markers. A collection of historical photos can be found in the photo gallery of this website. Many of the homes and churches in the photos can still be seen today.

A rich history of farming and commerce can be discovered at the local history museum, The Ogle County Historical Society. Art continues to be appreciated and created in this community having roots back to the Eagles Nest Art Colony founded by sculptor Lorado Taft in 1898. To be continued......
